Where to Find Your Electric Vehicle

There are an increasing number of electric vehicles on the market to meet whatever need you might have, whether for a small hatchback, a sedan, an all-wheel drive SUV, or a pickup truck. Here are a few resources to get you started.

Plugstar

The Plugstar shopping tools allow you to either browse through all available vehicles (sorted by price or range) or to specify your needs (number of seats, range, car form, etc.) so that it can produce a list of suitable vehicles. This is very handy when you are searching for an electric vehicle!

Local Dealerships

Most vehicle manufacturers are now producing electric vehicles, or will be soon. Local dealerships carry those cars, although because of high demand and supply-chain woes they often do not have much, if any, inventory, and you will need to place an order ahead of when you need the car. Talk with the dealership directly to find out their particular availability and constraints.

Online Sales

Many new electric car companies are bypassing the dealership model and selling cars directly to consumers, including companies such as Tesla, Rivian, Lucid, and Polestar. You can often find showrooms where you can see and test drive the cars in larger cities like Portland. Ultimately, you can order the car or truck from your own computer, and many of the companies will deliver it to your home.

Pre-Owned (Used) Vehicles

There are increasing numbers of used EVs on the market, and they could show up on the lot of any dealership. If you happen to be in Portland, Platt Auto is a dedicated used-EV dealership with knowledgeable and respected staff. It is a good place to go to see a lot of different models in one place.

Share Instead of Buy

Cars are expensive both to purchase and maintain, and they mostly just sit around using up parking space. Why take on the expense and hassle if you don't need to?

EWEB and Forth have teamed up to offer GoForth CarShare, featuring exclusively electric vehicles. Sign up with GoForth and then sign out a car. Presently the carshare is locally available only at one location in downtown Eugene, although some other locations are slated to return in the future. There are other electric carshare opportunities from GoForth in Portland, Medford, Ashland, and The Dalles.
