About this event
We would like to invite you to be part of our National Drive Electric Day 2019, Saturday, September 14, 12-5, Cooper Street, onto Front Street and Pacific Avenue, downtown Santa Cruz for another great Event with even more EV Test Rides and Test Drives this year. So, in addition to our usual owners/drivers Electric Vehicle showcase, we will be asking owners and drivers if they would like to offer to take attendees for ride alongs or to drive your EV. These are, of course, not at all required, and dealers will be offering rides and drives as well, but we know that when people get to experience how great EVs are on the road, they become more interested in making the switch to cleaner driving. And because of this increase in activity we will be needing more volunteers to help us pull it off, too. It is not necessary to know about EVs to volunteer.
Emissions assessments from cities and counties in the Monterey Bay as well as the greater Bay Area report that over 50% of our climate changing emissions come from vehicles. Switching to driving Electric immediately reduces one's driving emissions by up to 75%, plugged into electricity purchased from our zero carbon Monterey Bay Community Power, 100% reduction in driving emissions. This is why we do these Events and hope you will join our efforts to educate the public.
Last year we had over 300 EVents across the country and in some other countries and we expect at least that many this year. Sierra Club, Plug in America and the Electric Auto Association organize the Events nationally with Nissan and Clipper Creek as our national sponsors. The Central Coast Chapter of the Electric Auto Assn along with Monterey Bay Electric Vehicle Alliance and Ecology Action organize and sponsor the EVent locally.
